TV One is an Indonesian privately owned national television station based in East Jakarta. It is used to be known as Lativi which ends with name changed due to changes of ownership in the middle of February 2008.
RCTI (Rajawali Citra Televisi Indonesia) is Indonesia’s first privately owned television network based in West Jakarta. RCTI first went on-air in August 1989 as a local station and had a nationwide license one year later. Owned by PT Global Mediacom (formerly known as PT Bimantara Citra) and managed by PT Media Nusantara Citra or MNC as its holding company and Ericcson, the station has about 50 transmission sites across the country. MNC also oversees two other television stations, namely TPI and Global TV, and also Radio Trijaya and Radio ARH as well as the Seputar Indonesia newspaper.
Metro TV is Indonesia’s first 24-hour news channel based in West Jakarta. The station was established on November 25, 2000 and now has over 53 transmission sites all over the country. It is owned by Surya Paloh who also owns the Media Indonesia daily. These two, along with other newspapers distributed in different parts of Indonesia, are part of the Media Group, also owned by Paloh.
Trans TV (Televisi Transformasi Indonesia) is an Indonesian national television station based in South Jakarta. Owned by Chairul Tanjung, it began broadcasting in 2001. The station is similar to other commercial stations, showing news, movies, drama series, variety shows, quiz shows, and children’s programs.
Global TV is an Indonesian private television station based in West Jakarta. It is established in early 1999 and first went on air in October 2001 with MTV programming. The station airs news and sports such as F1, A1 and it also broadcasts MTV programs and Nickelodeon cartoons regularly.
Antv was launched on 1 January 1993 as a local television station in the Lampung province. In the same month the government licensed antv for nationwide broadcasting and the firm moved its headquarters to South Jakarta. It owns 21 relay stations and is capable of reaching 154 cities. Since 30 September 2005, Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp owns a 20% stake in antv, via its Hong Kong-based satellite and cable operator STAR TV. Under Indonesian law, foreign companies can only have a 20% stake in local media companies.
